The referee appointed for Latics game against Scunthorpe in the Carling Cup on Tuesday is Mr Steve Rushton.

Rushton hails from Staffordshire and broke into the world of league refereeing last season when he took charge of 24 games dishing out 64 yellow cards and five red.

Rushton has not taken charge of a Latics game before or indeed a Scunthorpe game so this will be a new experience for both clubs.

On Saturday Rushton took charge of the league two game between Shrewsbury and Bradford. The Shrews won the game 3-1 there was three yellow cards and a sending off for Kevin McIntyre of the home side.

AR Jones and N Smith are the two assistants while the fourth official will be RJ West.
