Oldham roared into the league 1 play-off positions with an emphatic win over Greater Manchester rivals Rochdale at Spotland on Saturday afternoon.

A 3-0 win has seen our good form in recent months help us into the play-offs, which is where we’ll be wanting to stay.

Rochdale had the first opportunities, half chances, but when they couldn’t take them it was us that took the lead when Danny Philliskirk put Daniel Johnson in on goal. Rochdale ‘keeper Conrad Logan was out to block his first effort but Johnson (24) followed-up to turn the rebound into an empty net.

Jamie Allen almost forced a first half equaliser but his volley was just wide of the post.

Paddy Kenny was handed his debut and forced into action on the hour as he turned away a Reuben Noble-Lazarus effort, which proved crucial as our second goal wasn’t too long after when Jack O’Connell fouled Philliskirk in the area for a penalty.

The man for this duty is Jonathan Forte (72), as he rarely does he made no mistake to stroke home his 13th of the season.

Philliskirk was again the architect as our three-nil win was wrapped up with 10-minutes to play when he created a second for Aston Villa loanee Johnson (80).
