Oldham’s FA Cup campaign is over for another season after a late defeat to our league 1 rivals Doncaster Rovers on Saturday afternoon.

A game that looked destined to end in a draw was decided in unfortunate circumstances late on as Doncaster booked their place in round three with a 1-0 win at Boundary Park as former boss Paul Dickov’s return ended in a sweet one for him!

Goals could have come at either end in the first half as Paddy Kenny, given permission to feature for us in the FA Cup, and Doncaster ‘keeper Sam Johnstone both forced into saves. Doncaster’s Richie Wellens denied by our Bolton Wanderers loanee and Jonathan Forte thwarted by Sam Johnstone with the follow up put over by Jabo Ibehre.

Another chance that passed us by in the first half was George Elokobi’s header, put over, from a Joseph Mills delivery as the half ended goalless.

Johnstone was the busier of the ‘keepers in the second half as he twice denied Danny Philliskirk, firstly his header and then a drive from the edge of the area and Theo Robinson denied by Kenny.

Kenny was involved in the unfortunate winner for Doncaster four-minutes from time when he attempted punch from a cross from Enda Stevens crashed back off Genseric Kusunga (86) and in for an own goal to give Dickov’s men a one-nil win.
