Oldham’s FA Cup hopes for another season continue into round two after a first round win over Leyton Orient on Saturday.

A solitary goal was enough to give us a 1-0 win over our league 1 rivals, and gain a measure of revenge for the league defeat at Boundary Park earlier in the season.

Leyton Orient’s Dean Cox almost forced a breakthrough for the visitors but Paul Rachubka produced a fine save to make sure the scored stayed level.

That wasn’t the case for long though when Mike Jones (38) gave Leyton Orient ‘keeper Gary Woods no chance with his 20-yard curling freekick as half time approached.

Chris Dagnall had a chance to level, but couldn’t take it with Jones also adding his second after a fine Carl Winchester run created his opening.

Oldham ‘keeper Rachubka didn’t have too much to do, he probably should have been tested more by Shaun Batt’s second half effort that was lacking power. He was beaten by Nathan Clarke, but that goal was ruled out for a push.

Danny Philliskirk almost made sure of victory in injury-time but the bar denied him, it didn’t mater though as one-nil was enough to put us through as we’ve now made it 10 games in all competitions unbeaten at home.
