Manager Lee Johnson was delighted to see Oldham progress through to the second round of the FA Cup but he knows Leyton Orient made us work very hard indeed for our narrow one nil victory.

Speaking to the Official Site after Mike Jones’ goal proved to be enough to separate both sides come full time, the gaffer explained.

‘We were made to work hard for it by good opposition and a good side. They have spent big and the eleven they had out was a strong team. It was a tough game for us and I’m just happy to be through and into the hat.’

The manager went on to say that in many ways it was a tough ‘mental’ performance from the players following the loss to Bristol City last time out, and he also revealed that there is a sickness bug going through the camp so some players had to dig really deep as they weren’t feeling 100%.

‘Some had to dig in because we had a few that weren’t feeling well. Jabo missed the game through illness and I’m delighted to come out with a win although it wasn’t a vintage display.’

With the manager talking ahead of the game about wanting to get some revenge for the early season defeat we suffered at their hands, he was also pleased on that score and again, although admitting it wasn’t our strongest showing of the season and we can undoubtedly play better than that, he felt the effort was definitely there from the players even though a good number of them were ‘up and down’ in terms of their consistency over the 90 minutes.

With the second round draw up later this evening, the manager admitted we wanted to get to the third round so ‘realistically’ he wants us now to draw the lowest ranked team left in the competition and for us to face them at home with every advantage that brings.

With that said though he knows any side in the second round draw is there for a reason and on merit, so even if we drew Warrington or a team from that level, he knows it would still be a tough game.
