Oldham’s mini run of form continued as we made it three wins on the trot, including back-to-back league 1 victories, with a win on Saturday afternoon.

Fleetwood, new to league 1 football, came to Boundary Park with an unbeaten league record but the returned home having been beaten 1-0 but a resurgent (that would be the right word to use wouldn’t it) Oldham side!

We started well, we had possession and the chances to go with it as Jonathan Forte disappointingly didn’t even hit the target when presented with a good chance. Danny Philliskirk doing likewise.

Jamie Proctor made Paul Rachubka made a good save before our chance came in first half injury-time.

Steven Schumacher, chasing back having seen another effort save by Rachubka ended our counter-attack by brining down Philliskirk with a penalty awarded. Forte (45) did better from 12-yards than he did 8-yards as he beat Fleetwood ‘keeper Chris Maxwell to send us into the break one-nil up.

Dominic Poleon would have marked his Oldham debut with a goal but for Maxwell’s side.

Fleetwood threatened an equaliser, twice Gareth Evans went close with his closest effort a curler that left Rachubka scrambling across his goal but we did enough to collect the three-points and manage, up to this point, something that no one else had, a win over Fleetwood!

No wonder Lee Johnson was a ‘very happy man’ after the game, not just because of this win but because of a very good week.
