Nothing But Praise From Johnson

Manager Lee Johnson has admitted he has nothing but praise for the way the players battled to a point against Sheffield United at the weekend.

Jonathan Forte gave us the lead in the game, before United equalised but we were then reduced to ten men when Jabo Ibehre picked up a red card for two yellow offences later in the game, and speaking to the Official Site Johnson said he couldn’t be anything but pleased with how we had performed and how we battled for the period they had the man advantage.

‘I thought we played well. If you watch the video not knowing the result, you would think that we were not under much threat. We had nice back behind the ball but maybe we could have kept the ball better. It was a good game, good advert, good atmosphere and the way the other results have gone, it has worked out to be a decent point.’

Johnson goes on to say that we simply have to view it as a point gained because whilst their is the disappointment of letting them get back into the game, he felt we were ‘excellent’ throughout.

With Oldham gearing up for a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy clash against Preston North End in a few hours in the area quarter final, the gaffer hinted he may be making changes as he has to replace the suspended Ibehre and on loan Daniel Johnson is ineligible for the tie.

‘It’s a good chance for players who are chomping at the bit because we are taking this competition very seriously. We are probably playing the favourites in the Northern Section, so it will be a tough game and a good one to watch.’

The gaffer went on to say that it’s already in his mind to give Etheridge a game as he’s been training well, but of course you know what you get with Rachubka.

‘We don’t want to change too much and the rules dictate that we can’t change and that is another thing we have to consider because we cannot afford to pay the 5k fine if we don’t play the six players.’

With tonight’s winners facing either Notts County or Doncaster Rovers in the area semi final, Johnson knows it’s all to play for and of course if we get through we are just a small step from Wembley.

‘Out club mindset is that wouldn’t it be great to go to Wembley. I feel like the club needs something like that and we want to produce. It’s a tough game so it will be difficult but with the right attitude we have a chance of getting the right result. The players should dream of Wembley.’

Dreaming of Wembley is one thing and Johnson confirms he wants to go through in normal time but we have practised penalties should they be required.
