Montano To Sue!

Former Oldham winger Cristian Montano is to sue the club following his sacking, almost a year ago, according to what BBC Sport has learned.

The 22-year-old was released, well sacked, by the club in December last year following allegations that he was implicated in the spot-fixing scandal along with five other professional footballers. The National Crime Agency (NCA) has released all six from bail but it is said that the ‘investigation is ongoing.’

Montano’s solicitor said that it was always suggested that the club waited until the outcome of the trial but he feels the ‘reckless’ nature we parted company with him will now see us ‘face the consequences.’

BBC Sport quotes Montano, speaking from Colombia, as saying: ‘At the time I felt like my life had ended. Nobody would listen to me. My agent turned his back on me and we were thrown out of the club when I went in with my PFA representative.

‘I always said that there was more to this than met the eye. I wanted to give my version of events but nobody would listen.’

It was said by Oldham that the former West Ham United man, signed in 2012, was sacked following his 48 appearances ‘on disciplinary grounds’ with this ‘irrespective of legal proceedings’ with chairman Simon Corney left surprised by this turn of events.

Should a court case be required to resolve this he will have no problem with the club making public the grievances that were had against Montana.

Also quoted on BBC Sport, his comments from New York, he said: ‘We find this development very surprising given that the National Crime Agency’s investigation into Cristian is ongoing.

‘However, should this go to court then we look forward to making public the various issues with Cristian that led to our decision to terminate his contract.’
