Richie Wellens is back in the physio room after sustaining an injury in the friday night draw against Doncaster at Belle Vue, the Oldham Chron reports.

Wellens, who has had sore ribs for the past week, recieved a knock in the same area on Friday night.

Despite not being substituted and playing on, he is now unlikely to train ahead of this Saturday’s home clash against Leyton Orient.

Wellens has only ever missed one Oldham game, which was because of a suspension. Wellens recieved a booking on friday night, which means he has been booked 4 times this season so far and is 1 more booking away from a 1 match ban.

Manager John Sheridan praised Richie’s character.

‘Richie picks up these knocks but gets on with it because he’s the sort of lad who wants to be out there playing football.’

‘He has been in agony and didn’t train much last week, but there was never any question of him missing a game.’

‘I know he’s a very good footballer, but I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves for the other things he gives us. Richie works very hard for the team and his partnership with Gary McDonald (in central midfield) is important.’

‘Those two lads are a nice blend and the effort they put into every game helps to keep the team going. Everybody does their bit, but I would like to know how far they run over the course of 90 minutes.’
