Tough Game For Johnson

Manager Lee Johnson has admitted he felt we should’ve put the game against Bradford out of sight before they got their goal.

Speaking to the press in his post game press conference, the manager said that he felt we could’ve been three or four goals clear before they made the match a tense one goal affair, but he was pleased with how the players dug in and stuck at it to pick up another valuable three points.

‘That was a really tough game, but you know what you are getting with Bradford because they are direct and physical and effective at it. The game could have been out of sight before Bradford’s goal and I was disappointed we hadn’t scored three or four, but we conceded a poor goal at a bad time.’

Johnson admits that with them scoring when they did, it made it an ‘uphill battle’ for us and then our failure to take the chances that came our way in the second half ultimately meant that we really had to dig in towards the end and he felt we defended very well and he was pleased with the desire of the players to put their bodies on the lines and get blocks in when they needed to.

‘We battled for the points, it was full of intensity and I’m delighted with the way we won a proper game of League One Football.’

With Oldham now in sixth place and in the play off positions, the gaffer attempted to manage expectations somewhat given the run we are on by admitted that maybe our position at the moment is a bit ‘false’ but he believes everybody at the club from players to fans can take a good confidence boost from us being up there and mixing it with the big teams in the league.
