A ‘good performance’, as Lee Johnson called it after the game, was enough to secure Oldham a point on Tuesday night.

Port Vale had started the league 1 season in good form but the points were shared at Boundary Park on Tuesday when the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Tom Pope (8) has started this season in the kind of goalscoring form that he’s shown over the years as he headed home his fifth goals of the campaign already from his strike partner Ben Williamson’s cross early on.

No further goals came, for either side, in the first half with the visitors going into the break one-up.

Oldham kept pressing and James Wilson (64), who had been a doubt for this, headed home a Mike Jones corner to level it up and one-one just past the hour.

The bar came to our rescue with Chris Lines threatening a winner, he headed against this before visiting ‘keeper Sam Johnson turned Danny Philliskirk’s header over the bar as the points were shared.

Johnson was ‘pleased with the performance but disappointed not to get the three points’ in the end, but this was a definite improvement on recent showings!
