Oldham’s 13 game unbeaten run came to an end on Saturday when we lost one nil to league leaders Bristol City, but manager Lee Johnson was in a positive mood come full time because he knows we could’ve come away with at least a point had we had a touch more luck.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, the manager explained.

‘It was a good game. We certainly took the game to them in the first half. The areas where we thought we could exploit we did but we could not get the final ball or the final finish. I can’t ask anymore of the lads to go for it like they did. We put men forward, put men in the box and although we didn’t get many chances from it, our general play was good.’

Johnson goes on to say that he felt the side had given a very good ‘account’ of themselves over the course of 90 minutes and although he was obviously disappointed to suffer the loss, as he looked back on the match, we went into it looking for the win and that’s how we played, it was just unfortunately one of those days for us in the final third.

‘As far as the run in concerned, we do need to build again but generally we will keep sticking to our principles. We move on from this game now, I’ve told the players well done and we must learn from this. It was a top of the table clash with both teams in good form and it showed.’

The gaffer also praised the travelling support for ‘sing their heart out’ right until the very end of the game and he said he and the players had appreciated that once again, it’s just disappointing we couldn’t take anything from the match so the fans had gone home happier.
