Manager Lee Johnson couldn’t help but hail the players after their showing against Coventry City last night.

A four one victory thanks to goals from Danny Philliskirk, a brace from Jonathan Forte and then a first goal for Jabo Ibehre left our manager a very happy man as Oldham extended their unbeaten run to twelve games.

Speaking to the Official Site following the victory, the manager picked out midfielder Liam Kelly and Philliskirk for special praise for their efforts and contributions on the evening.

‘They were both quality on the ball and I don’t want to sound patronising but I wonder if the general punter sees the quality of Kelly. People are growing to him now and they are started to see how he uses his shoulders, keeps the ball and tidies up. He allows other players to play and that’s a sign of a good player. I thought Philliskirk’s organisation was good as well as his quality on the ball which we all know he has got. The work rate he puts in is phenomenal.’

Moving on from those two and talking about the general overall performance of the players in the game, Johnson said that he felt we were very comfortable in the game and good value for the three points and having made a couple of changes, he was delighted with how those who came in took their chance as it points to the competition at the club now and the strength in depth.

‘We had some half decent chances so we are heading in the right direction. The result keeps us right in touch with the play off places. It was a great performance in difficult conditions so I couldn’t be more happier as a manager.’

Johnson ends by saying now isn’t the time to get carried away though, it’s time for the old cliche of taking each game one at a time and giving our all in each of the 90 minutes to see how long we can keep this run going because of course there is still plenty of points to win, or lose, in the league yet.
