Speaking to the Oldham Chronicle, skipper Will Haining has said he believes he is playing for his future at Boundary Park.
After enduring a nightmare season last year with injuries, this year has gone well so far, being part of a formiddable back four, being named skipper in Chris Swailes’ absence and recently making the League 1 Team of the Week.
Haining said to the Chron:
‘Just because I’m captaining the side and I’ve been here for a long time, it doesn’t mean I’ll get a new contract.
‘This is a massive year for me personally, so I’ve got to play as much as possible and show I’m worth keeping at the club.
‘Oldham is a place I like and I want to stay here for a lot longer. I’ve been here since I was 16, so you could say I’m part of the furniture.’
When asked on whether he believed Latics were in with a chance of going up, he replied:
‘We’ve played nearly all the top sides, matched every one of them and taken points off most, so why not?

He should get a new deal with his decent performances. The manager must think highly of him putting him as captain.
