Fans Player of the Season

As we now know what league we will be playing in next season it is time to select the Vital Oldham Fans Player of the Season. Here are the six candidates that have been chosen from the current latics squad who have played in at least fifteen games this season, and why they have been nominated.

Luke Beckett– First Latics striker in a long long time to get anywhere near 20 goals in a season, and his goals helped us mount an assault on the playoff places.

Ritchie Wellens– Played in every game apart from one. This lad has been magnificent this season. He could have chipped in with one or two more goals but his number of assists and creative vision on the field more than makes up for this.

Guy Branston– After the stick he got last season from the fans, our contract centre half has bounced back with style. Rock solid in the air, part of a very formidable back three along with swailes and haining, fire in his belly, and 110 percent every game.

Andy Liddell– We have really missed this fella!!! PRobably up there with Beckett as one of the best finishers at the club, and with Wellens for his craft and vision. He hit 10 league and cup goals probably would have got at least 15 if his season had not been cut short by injury.

Paul Warne– Warney has chipped in with some important goals this season and his energy has made a difference to our side.

Richard Butcher– This was a toss up between him and Hughes, but I think Butcher deserves credit for proving alot of people wrong, including myself, by coming back from his loan spell at Lincoln a much better player.

The following players also deserve a mention for making a difference to the team but due to lack of appearances it would be unfair to consider them for player of the season.

Lee Grant– Inspired confidence into the back three. Very good aerial ability, good at coming out for crosses and very decisive.

Will Haining– Had a torrid season with one injury after another but once he got himself fit it was like he never missed a game. Very dominant in the air and committed to the cause.

Chris Swailes– From what I have seen this season a fully fit Chris Swailes will be an assett to any team. Calm, composed, yet determined, as was shown against MK and barnsley when he tried in vain to play injured. Had our back three of Branston, Haining and Swailes stayed 100 percent fir i have no doubts we would be in the top 6 at least.
