Sheffield Wednesday have made an approach to Barnsley to speak to Oldham legend Andy Ritchie about becoming their next manager according to the Oldham Evening Chronicle.

However, Barnsle have stated that the approach has been refused verbally and via email.

Ritchie started his managerial career at Oldham in 1998 taking over from Neil Warnock. Ritchie then worked miracles in keeping Latics up under very heavy financial constraints. He was later sacked by the clubs previous owner Chris Moore despite being 8th in the league and replaced by Mick Wadsworth.
