The FA Cup FA Cup first round draw at Chasetown on Sunday seems to have caught the publics imaginations with tickets being snapped up.

Oldham have their allocation on open sale at the ticket office, prices £10 flat with no concessions. At the present time there are only 80 of the 450 tickets allocated left.

Chasetown have seen a rush for tickets, they had 1550 tickets available and having put them on sale at 7pm last night the lot were sold within an hour. Some fans had queued for eight hours to ensure they got a ticket!

Their 2000 capacity ground hasn’t seen a game of this size before as this is their first time in the FA Cup round one. The Midlands Alliance club is obviously assured of a sell out.

Chasetown will also get a guaranteed windfall of £75,000 as the game is being screened live by BBC1. out when their First Round clash against three-time Semi-Finalists Oldham Athletic is screened live by the BBC1 before a TV audience of millions on Sunday.

Charlie Blakemore’s team team have won five rounds to get to the first round scoring 19 goals along the way.

Chairman Mike Joiner said: ‘We’ve already won our cup final. I’ve been involved at the club for 40 years and at the start of the season I said ‘Look, we’ve done a few things in the last 40 years but let’s see if we can do something really special this season’ – and this is really special! It’s a family club and we want it to stay like that but we’re really enjoying our spell in the limelight – it’s a reward for everyone’s efforts, and for those less glamorous nights when you have to fix the toilets!’

Chasetown have resisted the temptation to move the game to a bigger venue. Joiner explains: ‘We didn’t want to move it to another ground. This is our home, and to play elsewhere is losing the reason for the competition.’

He is also delighted with the money their run has generated: ‘The money is unbelievable. Each year we budget around £15,000 on stadium improvements, but if we get £80-£100,000 we weren’t expecting from The Cup we can bring our plans forward five years.’

Chasetown have already earned £22,000 in prize money, with another £16,000 available for the game against Oldham. The sell out crowd will also earn them £20,000.
