Carl Winchester has now gone full circle since making his debut for Oldham three years ago as a full back, before then spending his time in midfield, as manager Lee Johnson has recently explained that he sees his best position as being on the right side of defence.

20 year old Northern Ireland U21 international Winchester has returned to his original natural position of right back in the last two games, and Johnson has been pleased with the performances he has put in.

Speaking to the Official Site the youngster said.

‘I’m just happy to get back playing after being injured last season. The gaffer likes me at right back and I’m happy to play wherever he puts me. I like right back, it gives me the chance to get forward.’

Winchester concedes that there is a lot of competition for places at the club because of the size of the squad and as a player you have to use that to your advantage and make sure you are always on your toes in training and in games, so his aim is to keep his first team slot and continue developing and progressing as a player to become even better and spend as much time on the pitch as he possibly can.

Since making his debut for the club, Winchester has gone on to make 35 appearances in all competitions, 26 of which were from the opening whistle and he has found the net twice in the league.
