Oldham brought in teenager striker Conor Wilkinson on a one-month youth loan on Friday and the youngster got on for the final 30-minutes for his debut in the draw with Gillingham.

Wilkinson, obviously, has been brought in to score goals but first and foremost he wants to impress during his loan spell and he feels happy enough with his early impression as he feels he must have done something right to find himself in Lee Johnson’s squad this weekend.

The Oldham boss had told him to enjoy himself but above all else ‘prove himself’ during his loan spell.

Wilkinson told the official website: ‘The gaffer told me on the day I signed that I would have been in the squad and I would have played.

‘It’s a massive test for me as it’s my first League One loan so the manager has told me to prove myself. The manager must have been impressed with me in midweek so I’m glad I’m here and I want to get going.’

The 19-year-old has already hinted that he would like to stay beyond his initial one-month spell, which could be possible so long as he produces the good with his performances and ideally goals.

As far as Saturday’s nil-nil draw with Gillingham went he felt we should have won really as we had enough chances to have done so.

On his own performance he thought he did ‘alright’ but also feels he should have scored himself, adding: ‘We should have scored a few goals at least. We created lots of chances but on another day we could have won by three or four.

‘On a personal front, I thought I did alright when I came on and maybe should have scored but I was happy to make my debut and hope to impress during my time here.’
