Jonson Clarke-Harris told Lee Johnson that he was going to be a ‘tornado’ when asked if he was going to be a ‘whirlwind or whirlpool’ against Bradford City last weekend.

The 19-year-old lived up to his own billing as he scored twice and set up the other for James Wesolowski in that 3-2 win, which saw Oldham take a big step towards league one safety even if there is still work to be done.

His game isn’t one that would instantly be associated with a striker that played the lone striker role but as long as he is playing he is happy to occupy the role.

Clarke-Harris says he feels fit and just wants to play and do his best.

He told BBC Radio Manchester: ‘It’s a hard job but I know I’m fit enough to do it. I love playing up front. I’m just happy to be playing.’

He also took inspiration from the pre-match chat that he had with Johnson, who installed more belief in him and as much as he could have let this go to his head he didn’t.

Clarke-Harris added: ‘I knew that [the opposition were scared to face Clarke-Harris] before the game – the gaffer and the staff told me but I couldn’t really let that get in my head. I just had to play the game I play.

‘He asked if I was going to be a whirlwind or a whirlpool. I told him I was going to be a tornado.’
