Oldham have had an end of season boost, releasing some positive news ahead of the final league one game, with the news that Danny Philliskirk has signed a new deal.

The forward, who has scored 12-goals this season to top the goalscoring charts at Boundary Park, has put pen to paper on a new two-year contract with the Latics having the option of a third.

Philliskirk has thanked Lee Johnson for the faith he put in him by ‘giving him a chance’, with this faith certainly repaid, and was thrilled at his new deal.

He told the official website: ‘I was given a chance at the start of the season. From where I was a year ago to where I am now, I am in a much better position.

‘At the start of the season I was struggling for a club. Luckily the gaffer took a chance on me and I’ve played over 40 games this season which I’m grateful for.’

This season is not quite done yet but he is already looking to the next one where he is aiming to keep improving and score more goals as well as help the club to a higher league position, which I have a feeling could be on.

On the contract extension Johnson added: ‘He’s done really well and I’ve been pleased with him this season.

‘For him to come from the academy system to playing over 40 games this season has been exceptional. There is scope for him to improve and I’m looking forward to working with him for the remainder of his contract.

‘We’re still speaking to several players at the moment and we’ve got lots of decisions still to make.’

It’ll be an interesting summer at Boundary Park, but securing Philliskirk is great new isn’t it?
