Prior to the game against Stevenage, Oldham confirmed that winger Sidney Schmeltz has moved to Shrewsbury Town for the rest of the season.

The 24 year old joined us in the summer and has featured 23 times for manager Lee Johnson since then, scoring his only goal in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy win over Shrewsbury back in September.

Shrewsbury could be a good destination for him, given the last time he played for Oldham was also against them back on New Years Day.

Speaking to the Official Site as his departure was announced, Johnson said.

‘Sidney would have found opportunities for games hard to come by, so it’s for the best for him to go to Shrewsbury and play football. We of course wish him the best for his loan spell.’

Johnson had made no secret of the fact that he was looking to move Schmeltz on this window, as well as a few other players, so a case of one down really.

The player made his debut for them in their match against MK Dons.
