Oldham Athletic came out of a tough encounter with Walsall last night with a valuable point that keeps them in the race for the play offs.

The game was a bright enough encounter with both sides creating chances to score, but it was the home side who were better in the early part of the game although striker Will Grigg wasting a hat trick of chances to put the Saddlers into the lead.

Then in the 39th minute, Filipe Morais showed how it was done when he fired in a low shot from the edge of the box, giving keeper James Walker no chance.

But Walsall were not going to lie down and take a beating, they showed that they were prepared to fight for their league one status and were rewarded with an equaliser just after the hour mark when Alex Nicholls set up full-back Darryl Westlake and he was soon celebrating his first goal for the club.

Both sides then tried to wrap up the three points but a draw was what they had to settle for.
