Oldham are in search of a new manager following Paul Dickov’s decision to resign following the weekend defeat at Walsall.

Dickov had been under pressure in recent weeks with Oldham’s League One form suffering, despite the FA Cup heroics included the win over Liverpool in the last round, and admitted himself that he feared the axe.

The official website carried this statement on Sunday: “After yesterday’s defeat to Walsall, Paul Dickov has decided that for the good of Oldham Athletic Football Club, it is best that he steps aside.”

Walsall’s 3-1 win inflicted an eight defeat in nine outings in the League for The Latics with them teetering above the relegation zone.

Did Dickov jump before he was pushed? Either way the 40-year-old is gone but was it the right decision and who do Oldham turn to now?
