Oh So Nearly

Latics were unlucky not to come away with all three points against a very average looking Swansea City side.

On the hour mark Latics were awarded a penalty after Warne was tripped in the box, which Luke Beckett calmly slotted home.

However Swansea equalised with an absolute screamer after a poor clearance from Terrell Forbes fell to Christian oleary who foung the top left hand corner from 25 yards. Latics came close in the closing stages of the game with Chris Hall spurning a very good chance and Eyres and Beckett both denied by the woodwork.

Player Ratings

Lee Grant
Stood no chance with the goal, made a class save near the end. i really hope we sign this fella on a season long loan at least

Terrell Forbes
Had a nightmare today, distribution was poor, could have done better with the clearance which would have lead to the goal, but the booing from the home fans near the end was bang out of order. Defo think it goes to show though this lad is not a full back, much stronger at centre half.

Guy Branston
MOM performance, solid as a rock!!

Will Haining
Not far behind Branston, also solid.

Paul Edwards
Overlapped well with Eyresy, but he needs to work on his crossing!!

Chris Taylor
Had a quiet game, opted to cut in on the inside a few times which cost us posession.

Mark Hughes
Poor game today from Hughsey. The effort was there but his passing was poor and was often the cause of many aimless long punts along with Forbes.

Ritchie Wellens
Shown some nice touches before being taken off.

David Eyres
Good game from Eyresy. Crossing wasnt the best but he ofered us a different option for free kicks and corners.

Paul Warne
Ineffective as a striker, but caused all sorts of problems when moved to right wing.

Luke Beckett
Scored a penalty but should have done better with one or two chances. Was unlucky to be denied by the woodwork late on.

Chris Hall
Held the ball up very well but missed a stonewall sitter.

Richard Butcher
I think today shown why he should start above Hughes. Looked very dangerous going forward. I do wish he would shoot more though!!!

Manager Rating
I think he made the right decision with regards to the starting eleven today but the two lads who should have been on the bench were doing the half time draw!!!

Swansea City
Swansea looked somewhat ordinary today and the likes of Leon Knight, Rory Fallon and Lee Trundle who are proven hitmen at this level were kept very quiet by the latics defence, yet Adebayo akinfenwa, who caused latics so many problems last season, remained on the bench.

Swansea Man of the Match
Adrian Forbes- Wasnt on for the full 90 but was very good with the ball at his feet and was very dangerous going forward.

Summary
With other results going Oldhams way yet again a win would have put us within touching distance of the play offs, but yet again latics fell just short despite a spirited display. Still not mathematically impossible but looking extremely unlikely.

” do you want ronnie to stay or go? i spoke to some latics last week and they will be glad to see the back of him”

Well we finished 19th last season, guaranteed top 10 finish this season, quite an improvement but some latics fans see it as a failure as we got into the top and went out with an almighty wimper. I think Ronnie should be given the chance to finish what he started but he has dropped some major clangers this season and some of his signings havent exactly worked out.
