Adam Lockwood has put pen to paper on a new one-year contract with Oldham.

Lockwood was with Bury at the start of last season but came to Boundary Park on a short-term deal back in January with him being a regular under Lee Johnson, a former teammate of his at Yeovil Town.

The experienced defender was offered a new deal by Johnson, which he’s accepted.

Johnson was more than happy for him to commit, telling the official website: ‘He has been exceptional on and off the field and will be an important member of our squad for next season.

‘I believe he will only improve as his conditioning gets to its peak.’

32-year-old Lockwood will have to sit out the first game of the new season due to suspension after his sending off against Notts County but he’ll soon be battling to get back into the starting XI, and threatening at both ends having scored a respectable two goals in 19 appearances for the club so far.
