In a game where Latics were hoping to make that final transition that would make Oldham one of the sides to establish themselves as play-off favourites, the Latics simply didn’t turn up and were comfortably beaten by a lacklustre side.

The travel down to Luton saw the arrival of youngster Richard O’Donnell on loan, who would fill in for the injured Mark Crossley. The debutant however wasn’t given any help from a surprisingly poor Latics backline as it was game over within 35 minutes.

Before the game both Reuben Hazell and JP Kalala spoke to the press about how an air of optimism surrounded Boundary Park, it turned out to be more complacency; a cockiness without class…Latics were truly undone and deservedly so.

This is truly a shocking league as Latics find themselves still only 3 points off the play-offs despite a poor run of results early in the season and countless slip ups against teams who should have been comprehensively beaten. If Latics really want one of these play-off places we need the senior players, such as Gregan the destroyer and Hughesy, to get fit and playing again.

Good news possibley from Gretna’s misfortune as Latics may be in for both former ‘Tics Paul Murray and Danny Hall…Watch this space
