Following on from our two all draw with Swindon Town last night, manager Lee Johnson has credited the support of the travelling 288 strong who made the trip.

Oldham opened the scoring through James Dayton in what has been described as a potential goal of the season contender, but Swindon soon hit back and late in the game took the lead themselves before a first goal from Amari Morgan-Smith gave us a point for our efforts.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, Johnson explained.

‘I thought our fans were absolutely superb and I thank them because they didn’t just drive the players on, they drove me on on the touchline in what was a tough game. I’m delighted for them and I hope they turn out like that at Notts County.’

Moving on to comments about our performance over the 90 minutes, the gaffer goes on to say that he felt we were poor in the first half, despite taking the lead, but he was pleased with the reaction in the second period.

‘It was a world class strike in my opinion. It was a great piece of individual brilliance and I think we needed it because we were poor. Swindon were a good side so I’m taking nothing away from them but we weren’t doing what we usually do to other teams. I was disappointed going into the break and I told them that. I asked for more energy and positive play and second half we really showed that.’

With both goalscorers taking the praise, Morgan-Smith said he was delighted to open his account for us, especially as it was a very important goal to have grabbed against a quality opponent.

‘It was a very good point in the end, Swindon are a tough side so we are happy. We played better in the second half and maybe we should’ve nicked another goal?’

He goes on to say that for their goal Johnson did have some words for him in terms of switching off at this level, so he was delighted to have answered that with a goal for himself and he hopes the team and him, can now keep kicking on and pick up more positive results.
