Manager Lee Johnson has called on the Oldham team to keep their current momentum going as we gear up for the weekend game.

Speaking to the Official Site following the last game against Fleetwood Town that saw us register three straight wins and three straight clean sheets, Johnson said he was hopeful of extending both of those mini runs to four.

‘I felt the run was coming, I was disappointed with some of the reactions against Preston because I felt it was blown out of proportion. We went to a good side and dominated so I thought it was good to finally show what we were about against Doncaster. We ground out a result against Bradford, and I thought we were convincing without the scoreline against Fleetwood.’

Johnson goes on to say that football is full of ups and downs, but we rely on the players at the club, and they need to remain fit, confident and we need to keep morale up when patches are sticky, but going into a patch like this is the end result of a lot of hard work.

With Gillingham up next, the gaffer goes on to say that he knows it’s going to be another tough game for us and he was full of praise for his opposite number Peter Taylor, but he’s confident we can keep this run going and that’s exactly what we’ll be looking to get from the game.

With Jonathan Forte grabbing his fifth goal of the campaign, but having to be substituted with an injury, Johnson said he was hopeful that the 33 year old would return to contention this weekend because he had been responding well to treatment. Despite describing him as currently 50/50 for a return, Johnson was confident and positive he’d be available though.

With Adam Lockwood remaining out as well, the gaffer also said that he’s now probably three or four weeks away from returning to training, so when we get him back he’ll be another good boost for us. However, he could still be ten to twelve weeks away from full first team contention.
