Manager Lee Johnson was left delighted with the test that Morecambe posed for us during our most recent pre season friendly.

Adam Lockwood and Jonson Clarke-Harris twice put Oldham ahead during the game, but Morecambe battled all the way and got themselves twice back on level terms.

The gaffer of course used a 352 on the night, and speaking to the Official Site his new formation figured highly in his thoughts.

‘It was a great workout. We tried a new formation and we will have to use that at times going into the season, particularly if we may be a goal down at half time because it’s an attacking formation.’

Johnson goes on to say that in the first half he thought we were quite ‘neat’ in play at points, but even then you could tell we are still at the point of building fitness but he is confident that when the fitness is there we can really play this formation and maximise it’s potential on the pitch.

‘We looked like we could definitely play that system so we certainly have the profiles within the squad and a lot of good things come out of it.’

Johnson goes on to talk about Clarke-Harris strike on the night, saying that he said to assistant Tommy Wright that it was more than Jonson’s sort of area to make something happen.

‘As soon as he gets it on the inside right, we know what he can do but I won’t let him count that goal because I want him to score the goals inside the six yard box.’

Johnson goes on to say that everybody knows what Jonson is capable of, so if he can add the poachers element to it, both in terms of finishing and the making of runs to get into those positions, he really does think it’ll be important for him and he will fly up the goal charts when that clicks for him.
