Manager Lee Johnson couldn’t have been more happy after watching us end our three match home losing run with victory over Crawley Town.

It also gave us a much needed league table boost in the battle against relegation and helped pull us slightly more clear of those teams below us.

Speaking to the press following the one nil victory with Danny Philliskirk’s 18th minute goal giving us all three points, the gaffer said he was delighted to see us perform how we did in the first half, even though he knows Crawley more than came back to it in the second, but having made our dominance count, it was then down to us to defend properly and we did just that.

‘This is a great three points for us. We were excellent in the first half and were unlucky not to score a second goal. I think the players are trying to kill me because the longer the game went on, the edgier it got.’

It was of course Oldham’s first victory in six attempts and Johnson says he’s not only pleased for the players, but for the club as a whole and mainly the fans because we haven’t given the faithful much to cheer in recent games.

‘We all felt we needed this win and the fans were superb in getting behind us.’

The gaffer goes on to say that he felt we were comfortable for large parts of the game, even when Crawley came back into it as they didn’t really have that many chances in his mind, but obviously it was panicky because of where we find ourselves in the league and our recent form.

If we can now take that forward and get ourselves on a run it really will build on the positives he feels we can take from the game, namely our defensive showing, the clean sheet and getting back to winning ways.

Two more key games before the end of the month and maybe two victories are too much to ask for, but three four points from them will certainly improve our league placing again and that’s what it’s all about at this stage.
