George Elokobi has slotted into the squad, and starting XI, at Oldham nicely since his summer arrival.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers man only made one appearance, even that came from the bench, in pre-season when he came on against Huddersfield Town but the powerful defender feels that his fitness is almost where he would want.

He also feels very much part of the team and at home with Oldham.

Elokobi told the official website: ‘I haven’t played many games in pre-season and I came into the club just before the start of the season so that was my first game. It was going to take me two or three games to get going but I’m feeling good with my fitness, physical side and I’m enjoying my football as well.

‘I am enjoying it here 110%. Football is all about getting the opportunity to play, playing and working hard on the training ground. I’m happy to be part of the 11 that starts and even if I’m on the bench, I’m happy to be part of the team.’

It would be easy to get carried away by the great win over Fleetwood from the weekend, added to the other recent wins, but he insists that we are ‘remaining grounded’ with the Gillingham game already one he is looking forward too.

What he does feel though is that we are showing good signs of improvement and if we carry on we’ll have a good season.
