Oldham Athletic manager Paul Dickov has unearthed a gem, Irish amateur striker Dean Kelly has been on trial with the club and done enough to be handed a short term contract.
The 24 year old impressed the powers that be at Latics during pre-season and Dickov is known to be a fan of scouting for talent in the lesser leagues where players of high ability often slip through the net.
Although last season Kelly played for a little known Irish side called Crumlin United, he did manage to find the net 30 times.
Speaking to the club`s official website Dickov said: “What stood out from day one was Dean’s natural ability for someone who plays amateur football in Ireland and who only trains a couple of times a week.
“He is a natural goalscorer who holds up the ball well.
“He still has a lot of work to do but we believe he has a good chance of making it.”

30 goals at any level is not to be sniffed at, you never know, he could be the next big name to be signed by a bigger club. Worth a gamble I reckon.
Cant wait to see him in action, lets hoe Dickov has found something good. Well, the scouts.
