Oldham boss Paul Dickov tried his best to pick out the positives from his side`s performance at Leyton Orient on Saturday.

Personally, I was surprised that Dickov could take anything away from this game. Latics never looked like getting the ball into the back of the Orient net although it was a bitter blow to end up with nothing after soaking up pressure throughout the game.

‘I feel for my boys because I thought they were really magnificent,’ Dickov told the Press Association.

‘Orient had a few chances in the first half but we kept them at long range”.

Ironically, it was one of those long range efforts that caught Latics out three minutes from time when substitute Paul-Jose M’Poku let fly from 25 yards giving Amos no chance.

Dickov went on to praise the side for their efforts in going forward in search of goals and pointed out that his side caused problems for the Orient defence, something which I can`t say that I noticed from where I was sat.

‘I thought that we defended excellently and when we did get forward, we caused them all sorts of problems and we should have had a penalty, he added.

‘We were equal to them and I believe that, if we keep doing the right things, then the confidence will come back and so will the right results. We’ve worked ever so hard here and had a right good go so there are positive signs”.

In fairness to the manager, he did say that we had what he felt to be a certain penalty appeal turned down. This is true, how the referee missed it is beyond my comprehension, but like the old saying goes, ‘you get no luck when you are struggling`.

Dickov ended the interview by saying: “We had a penalty appeal for handball turned down and frankly, some of the refereeing decisions totally baffled me.’
