Both teams went for it in the end but the game between Rochdale and Oldham finished in a 1-1 draw, all in all not a bad result for the Latics.

Neither side had a lot of love to show each other and it was Oldham who started the better of the two sides, dominating the first half hour and getting the opening goal to show for their troubles.

That came in the 16th minute when Oumare Tonkara set up Cedric Evina with a clever back heel and he bent the ball past the Rochdale keeper Josh Lillis from 20 yards.

Rochdale came back into the game after about half an hour, Dean Brill watched an effort from Bobby Grant curl around the post and out.

The home side found some confidence from somewhere and five minutes later the two sides were level when Nicky Adams was sent through and his pass was turned home by Matt Done.

Jean-Yves M’Voto came to the rescue of Latics when he threw himself at the ball to block a goal bound shot from Grant.

Rochdale improved after the interval and pressed strongly for the second goal.

Grant stumbled on the ball after being set up by Chris O’Grady while Adams’ diving header from point blank range was superbly saved by Dean Brill and that`s as close as the home side came.

Points shared, fair result.
