Oldham chief executive Alan Hardy says that the Cup exit at the hands of Accrington Stanley can only be described as a financial disaster.

Latics went out of the competition as Accrington showed enough passion to knock out the team from league one.

The result makes it three first hurdle knock outs out of three for Oldham as they went out of the Carling Cup and the Johnstones Paint Trophy at the same stages.

Hardy said: ‘The embarrassing defeat at Accrington can only be described as a financial disaster.

‘We were hoping for a cup run at least up to the third round which would have brought in valuable revenue in what is proving a financially challenging season.’
