It was a bridge too far for Oldham on Tuesday night as they bowed out of the FA Cup in the fifth round stage at Goodison Park against Everton in the replay.

Everton looked the more likely to breakthrough early on and soon managed this with Kevin Mirallas (15) finishing well to open the scoring.

Oldham were almost level instantly but Jose Baxter was denied a goal against his former side by the post, with Tim Howard well beaten. Everton also survived a penalty shout before they were awarded one of their own. Leighton Baines (34) made no mistake with Dean Bouzanis unable to get a strong enough hand to it.

Further goals could have come for Everton before the third finally did just past the hour mark when Leon Osman (62) headed home.

Oldham pulled one back immediately after The Toffees third through substitute Matt Smith (64) but it was the Premier League side that went through to the quarter finals with a 3-1 win.
