It had been a while since Jonson Clarke-Harris had managed to find the back of the new for Oldham but he managed this not once, but twice on Saturday.

The 19-year-olds brace, taking his goals tally for the season since his arrival last summer to eight, against Bradford City helped inspire Oldham to a much needed three points in the 3-2 win.

With Oldham needing points to ensure they stay in league one he knows the importance of the win, and it is a game he enjoyed.

He told the official website: ‘I definitely enjoyed that one.

‘It was a big game and a massive three points for us. It’s another game unbeaten. We’ve got something to build on and all the boys are confident. We’re all up for the fight so that’s how it is.’

Speaking about both of his goals, the 19-year-old admitted to seeing neither goal and used his instincts to steer the ball past the goalkeeper.

He instinctively took his first, which he admitted he was initially concerned about being offside for, and followed the advice of his boss Lee Johnson for the second to ‘open his legs’ and use his pace and power to get through.

This is something he will look to do more of now.

Obviously goals win games but you have to defend against them too and he singled out Adam Lockwood for special praise.

The striker added: ‘He’s a proper leader and someone I look up to as a player. It’s someone I really listen to as well.’
