Manager Lee Johnson has hailed the character of the side as we fought from behind to take three points off Scunthorpe this weekend.

Jonathan Forte had got us initially back on level terms after Scunthorpe took the lead roughly midway through the first period, but they got their noses back in front again before the half time break, but the points were secured by a Danny Philliskirk brace in the second half.

Having come from behind twice, Johnson told the Official Site that he was delighted with the character and the desire of the team because they didn’t give up and in the end he felt they got the result they deserved.

‘I thought we had good character in the end because we were dominant throughout. They set up in a negative way which was disappointing but we stayed patient and it was two great goals in the second half to win it. I was disappointing with both goals we conceded, the second goal disappointed me because I thought we were lazy and slow to get out. We work on it in training every day and we switched off.’

Oldham have now lifted themselves into tenth place in the league and that did please the gaffer though, and he also had specific praise for the brace scoring Philliskirk.

‘I’m delighted for Danny because he’s got that little hoodoo out of the way and he can kick on now. It was nothing against Poleon (the substitution) but I knew what they were going to do, they were going to sit on the edge of their box and nullify (his) pace. We needed Danny because he’s got a slightly better touch and he can get in the pockets.’

Sound tactical change from the gaffer and it paid off perfectly in the end.

With him getting the all important double, Philliskirk was also in front of the cameras after the game and the 23 year old’s aim for the season couldn’t be clearer.

‘We can get promotion easily. There has not been a team this season that has outplayed us I don’t think. We have been unlucky in the last three to not turn those draws into wins. We go to Peterborough now and hopefully they will be scared of us following the run we have been on and hopefully we can get the win.’

Only one way to back up a promotion statement like that and it is to pick up the wins and not just the point.
