James Wesolowski has handed Oldham a boost by signing a new two-year contract.

The 24-year-old joined Oldham last summer from Peterborough and will now be a key component in Paul Dickov’s plans for the next couple of years at least.

Dickov, as he told the official website, is left with little doubt that the midfielder could prove the best signing for the club this summer: ‘James is an integral part of our plans for next season. He received a number of other offers which did not surprise me.

‘He could have been better off financially elsewhere but he wants to stay with us.

‘We saw last season when James and Dean (Furman) were fit and played alongside each other, there was probably no better central-midfield pairing in League One.

‘I would go as far as saying James can be as big as any other signing we make this summer.’

High praise indeed, do you agree?
