Manager Lee Johnson has said that our pre season run out against Barrow was beneficial for the players, but he wasn’t impressed with their playing surface.

Speaking to the Official Site after Saturday’s two one victory thanks to goals from Jonson Clarke-Harris and Jordan Bove, the gaffer explained.

‘We could come here in the first round of the FA Cup and you have to learn to win ugly so I think it was beneficial. The pitch was dangerous and we’ve come out with a few knocks which I’m not pleased about. Sometimes you’ve just got to play the conditions and that’s what we did.’

Johnson goes on to say that the game was worthwhile though, especially as the week previous most of the focus had been on team building, bonding and spirit and those attributes show through in games where you have to dig in and do it the ugly way.

Having praised Liam Kelly and Timothee Dieng for their performances the gaffer also commented on the tackle on Kelly that saw Paddy Lacey see red.

‘It was a bad tackle. It was a cowards tackle and it was disappointing to see, especially on Liam Kelly who has just come back from a serious injury.’
