Manager Lee Johnson has said that Oldham’s performance in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy against Notts County last night was ‘excellent’.

Oldham went behind in the game, but then fought back to hold a two one lead going into the half time break, and then added a further three goals in the second half to take the area quarter final five one on the night.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, Johnson couldn’t have been more happy with the efforts of the players especially as we more than put the league defeat by them behind us as well as securing passage through to the next round.

‘It was an excellent performance and I was very pleased with how we played. What was nice about our goals was that they were controlled. We were getting into areas and not just blazing it. There were two or three goals which were really nice.’

As for Man of the Match Danny Philliskirk, the gaffer said he more than deserved the recognition owing to his overall performance and not just his brace on the night because he thought his general play was ‘exceptional’.

Obviously now Johnson hopes we can take that type of victory into the league to really give us a further boost now.

As for the sending off of 18 year old Jordan Bove, the gaffer is happy to put that down to ‘youthful exuberance’ this time, however he doesn’t expect to see such a rash challenge again in the future from the player as he continues his development.
